Geez that's huge, is Carrara really that good? do you lose out in other ways?

Mmm, the one real drawback I've found so far is that it doesn't upscale textures well. That's why you see the pixelation of the texture on Ciel's throne in my previous image. Also, complex shader trees don't translate over. It's probably possible to get similar or better effects by delving into Carrara's own shader trees, but I haven't taken the time to do so yet.
However, what is gained is insane: the ability to do raytracing w/o dedicating a quarter of a week to let your computer render, the ability to handle multiple figures and multiple textures much much better, better memory management, a multi-threaded renderer, an environment editor similar to Vue (though Vue's water is still better by far, land slightly better, and sky a toss up), much better "infinite" lights (all lights in general), post processing effects like blur and lens flare, and the best of all: far FASTER render times!
One thing I have learned with Carrara though is to save early and save often! When you've got 5 figures in there and you're rendering and tweaking and changing materials and such over and over and over again, Carrara has a tendency to just crash and disappear (who can blame it? Poser can't take half the punishment).
That said, I'd say I'm using Carrara for about half my renders these days -- pretty much anything with multiple figures in it, or huge background scenery like Stonemason's future platform. If you do get Carrara, Transposer 2 is pretty much a must (it automates the transfer of textures over to Carrara, otherwise you have to manually--hunt--for--each--one).

Happy Birthday Giolon!!!
Hope you got my email.
Party hearty, and that is the best gift you could get short of them being real and in the mood.

Happy Birthday, sir!
Hopefully your family will have bought you some real Twi'leks! ;)
The only problem would be that there would be a lot of Hutt gangsters that wouldn't be too happy. Still...it would make a nice change from the usual slippers, deodorant and handkerchiefs.
Also, if you do get some, please ask your family where they got them from. I'll then treat myself when my birthday comes in November. :-D
I must say that you are younger than I thought, I had some weird idea that you were late twenties or early thirties.
Anyway, I hope you have a great day and thank you for providing people with great images.
