Not Quite Valentine!
Not Quite Valentine!

Not Quite Valentine!
Description: Edit: Purpleized! A little less intense than the red, and more evocative of Ms. Valentine.

Here it is, a little later than I'd expected (which was already much later than I hoped). Final Fantasy XIII pretty much took over my free time the last week and a half.

So, some of you were very close to guessing the title, but nobody guessed the correct Twi'lek girl. The title has a little bit of a double meaning. Those of you familiar with anime should recognize this as Faye Valentine's trademark outfit. I also originally expected to finish this for Valentine's Day, but for various reasons that didn't happen, so we get this title.

I wanted to do some experimentation with sort of skewed perspective effect (I'm not sure what else it's really called) where the closer an object is to the camera the larger and more distorted it starts to look - and this is the product I came up with. The end result can make it look a little like her shorts are cut off through her middle, but I assure you it's not. Maybe I'll have to post a B-side to prove it. :-p

On a side note, one of our community members informed me that in a recent issue of SW Insider addressed the issue of Twi'lek female ears. Cones are the official anatomy of purebloods, but Twi'leks can crossbreed with humans, and female Twi'leks with ears are the product of such mixed heritage. So, are my girls all part human? I don't know, but I've always maintained that I stuck them with ears b/c I think they look better. You can make the call for yourselves.

Finally, I'm going to be on vacation in Japan starting this Friday so my access to the site and e-mail will be limited for the following three weeks (but not severed, so BEHAVE!). I'm hoping to get one quick pre-vacation image in before I go. If I were to post some photos from the trip in their own gallery, is that something you all would be interested in seeing? I won't be offended if you say no.

So my guess: close but no cigar. Or banana. Yeah, stick with the banana. Much nicer.

As soon as I saw this picture, I immediately recognised Faye's outfit and shortly in turn the connection to the title. Therefore, it wasn't just being one letter too many with my guess and it merely being a late Valentine's image.

It is actually an outfit I think would suit several of your Twi'leks. Oola looks good wearing it but I think it would also suit Daru (yellow on blue would look nice). Lana might also look okay with it too. I'm not sure about Rena or Ciel. It comes down to colour co-ordination.

I think the perspective has worked very well. I'm not sure if it could actually be classed as a fish eye lense effect but I don't know too much about their eyesight. I am guessing that things close up would possibly look bulbous. If that is truly the case, I don't think it would have made Oola look as attractive as she normally does. Therefore, this chosen perspective and effect that you have, gives this picture a unique style while retaining clarity of the female form. Think of this picture's perspective as a skyscraper effect, as if Oola was really, REALLY tall and you were on the roof of the building, looking down. :)

Regarding the issue of the Twi'lek ears, that sounds like a decent way of classifying things. I much prefer Human ears instead of the cones, even if I don't find the cones too distracting. I suppose a great deal of the time though that is because Twi'leks invariably wear some sort of head dress that completely covers their ears or fits around them, making them look part of the adornment.

I remember originally reading that it was the males that had Human ears and the females had the cones. I thought that seemed odd, however. Why such a difference? And I say that even if the males do have bumpy foreheads, bad teeth and look quite unpleasant. This isn't just me being a heterosexual and finding women more appealing. The Twi'lek females look genuinely attractive whereas the males are anything but. Still, just think, there is a Human and Twi'lek mother and father out there that gave birth to Bib Fortuna. :-\

I hope you have a nice time in Japan. I, for one, would like to see your photos. I have always found Japan to be a fascinating place. I hope to be able to visit the land someday as well.

Oh and by the way, even though I have tried looking into the origins of it, I still haven't found out why Japanese girls often give a wink and the V sign in photos, similar to what Oola is doing here.

Hell Yes!

After the teaser, I was expecting Lana too, but I'm not exactly disappointed. In addition to Oola being my favorite of your girls, Faye Valentine is quite possibly my favorite anime vixen ever. If you ever have an urge to do another image like this, Meer Campbell from Gundam Seed Destiny has both a nightie and a bikini that would look incredible on pretty much anybody.

I'm jealous to hear that you're heading to Japan, though not as jealous as I would have been before I went to Egypt in January. I was hoping to head to Japan at the start of next year, but a couple thousand dollars in unexpected medical bills have pretty much put the kibosh on that. At any rate, I'd also be interested in seeing your photos, even if you don't manage to capture Godzilla on one of his daily rampages.

Another very nice image!

The angle and pose had me thinking Lana too, but Oola was a pleasant surprise here and she looks the part for sure. I like the textures a lot in this one, especially the way the light is catching the headband.

Great work, and do have fun in Japan!

I checked this site everyday since the beginning of '10 for any new images. Exactly on the two days I did not look, (March 20-21) you uploaded a new pic. At least my guess was almost right of the teaser (Not quite V....).

Now let's talk about the image itself, shall we? I hoped this to be either Lana or Daru, maybe even Rena. But we haven't seen Oola for a while, so I think you made the right choise. Also, I find this one of the best images of Oola so far. The texture is just awsome! I only wished this image had an even bigger resolution, so it would be even better. The color-combination: green-yellow-purple also looks great.

The verdict: great job and keep up that good work! I'm looking forward to your new image. I hope you also make a B-side of this pic. About posting some images of your trip in Japan, I say do it. Japan is a great country and I would love to see some pics of it or of whatever you're gonna take pictures of. (Damnit, I wanna go to Japan.) Well, have fun there.

Excellent work; although I dislike the character

First off, I must pay homage to your shadow work. On some of my favorite pieces of your work, the outfits didn't cast shadows onto the model. Those textures might have been fantastic, but the merging of the two lacked the shadows that make them look realistic. This one, you hit that particular aspect dead on.

I can't say I like Faye Valentine, nor is Oola really my favorite twi'lek; but I don't wish to diminish the work you put into this. The clothes and the shadowing effects on the skin texture are perfect. Something of which I had done with a few of your CGI images was to edit them in photoshop and use a burn function around edges to give a fairly decent shadow effect like what you did here.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Japan.
